Our Commitment to the Environment

Sherpani is committed to doing our part to protect the environment by designing and manufacturing products that are made of natural fibers and recycled materials whenever possible.

We also take steps in the office and on the road to minimize our own impact on the environment by reducing our energy consumption and recycling.

Our Products

Recycled Polyester or PET Non-Toxic Dyes Recycled Aluminum Natural Fibers

Recycled Polyester or PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
Sherpani Sport and Travel Collections - We recycle used soda bottles, water bottles and other liquid containers. The use of recycled polyester for bags and other products lessens our need for oil, reduces waste (and the toxins required to burn it), and produces less pollution than when starting off with virgin polyester.

Benefits of recycled polyester:

  • Lessens dependence on oil
  • Curbs discards, thereby prolonging landfill life and reducing toxic emissions from incinerators
  • Helps to promote a new recycling stream for polyester bags and clothing that is no longer wearable
  • Creates less air, water and soil contamination
  • Sherpani strives for a minimum of 67% recycled Fabric in our Planet Friendly collection fabrics.

    Non-Toxic Dyes
In all our collections, Sherpani uses Dyes with pigments from natural sources that do not contain carcinogenic materials, heavy metals or formaldehyde. Non toxic dyes tend to be safer for the environment, workers who produce them, and they are more skin friendly for people who have sensitivity to chemicals.

    Recycled Aluminum
Sherpani strives for a minimum of 30% recycled aluminum in our metal hardware. The percentage of recycled materials Sherpani can use is dependent on the amount of “scrap” materials that are available. Scrap aluminum can easily be reused and recycled in products after its initial production. The process involves simply re-melting the metal, which is far less expensive and energy intensive than creating new aluminum through the electrolysis of aluminum oxide. Recycling scrap aluminum requires only 5% of the energy used to make new aluminum. As recycling does not damage the metal’s structure, aluminum can be recycled indefinitely and still be used to produce any product for which new aluminum could have been used.

    Natural Fibers
Our Naturals Collection is made from all natural fibers; unlike petroleum-based fibers, Natural fibers are energy self-sustaining, and does not contribute to net greenhouse gas emissions. Natural fibers are made from plant, animal and mineral sources and improve the environmental sustainability of the parts being constructed.

    Our Office

    In the Office
Sherpani is doing its part to reduce our carbon footprint in our office environment.
  • Excess boxes are used to ship shoes to those in need around the world - One World Running
  • Paper and cardboard recycling.
  • Printer cartridge recycling.
  • Electronics recycling.
  • Battery recycling.
  • Aluminum and plastic drink container recycling.
  • Reuse packing materials (bubble wrap, packing peanuts, Styrofoam, etc.).
  • Turning off PCs at the end of the day, and using the sleep settings on monitors and PCs.
  •
    On the Road

  • Our company fleet uses clean diesel technology to get 25 miles to the gallon which is 18.1% more fuel efficient than other comparable Cargo Vans on the market.
  • Sherpani uses trains for inland transportation of products. Today’s average train has an efficiency of 400 ton-miles per gallon whereas trucks currently have approximately 130 ton-miles per gallon.
